Equip a Fishing Rod from Bag, then Tool. Fish only where there is water deep enough. You cannot fish while jumping or while you are in the water.
Buy rods at the Fishing Shop in the Plaza near the docks, or at the Shop. Bait is selected with the rod equipped. It also crafts at the Kaia Workshop, and it changes which fish are likely.
Spawn chance depends on day or night, the spot, and the timing. Steam says the pond, the sea, and even a swimming pool each hold fish the other spots do not, and the total is over 600 species.
Sell the catch or place it in a Fish Tank. The Illustrated Book in the game is the species list. This page does not invent one.
Fishing is a collection loop with a shop at the end of it. The help center’s rules are short. The species list is long, and it lives in the client.
Cast, in the order the help article gives
- Equip a Fishing Rod: Bag → Tool → Fishing Rod.
- Stand where there is water. Shallow water and empty ground do not count. Being in the water, or jumping, blocks the cast.
- Use the rod. With it equipped you can select and buy bait. The article says the bait you have equipped changes the probability of certain fish.
- Bait you do not buy can be crafted at the Kaia Workshop.
- A Boat reaches fishing at the farthest part of the sea.
After the catch, the “What is Fishing?” article gives two uses: sell the fish, or put it in a Fish Tank. Stars from fishing are named on the Stars article. See Money. Prices per species are not in these articles.

Where to start
The Fishing Shop is in the Plaza near the docks. If the pin is missing, use Phone, then Map, the same fallback the Camping Ground article gives. Rods are also sold at the Shop. The store screenshot above is the pier art from the Steam page. It shows the kind of water the feature is selling. It is not a labeled map of every node.
Home visits are a second place to fish. Steam’s home-party paragraph says you can catch fish at a friend’s house. The house rules for whose rod and whose tank apply are not spelled out in the articles used here. Try it in a party, then read Homes.
